Turning to Sangomas, Ancestors and Traditional Doctors Because God “Has Failed”

Introduction

I was born in a family that religiously used sangomas, ancestors and traditional doctors. My father and my grandfather on my mother’s side, were both sangomas or traditional doctors. At some point in my life I wanted to become one as well. My whole family practiced this part of our culture religiously. I am sure this part of my life represents a situation that quite a number of black people grew up in and still live in. We relied on sangomas, ancestors and traditional doctors for every part of our daily lives. Our reliance was most especially on ancestors. We thanked them for when things were going well and we appealed to them when things were not going well. We spoke to them, sacrificed to them and cut our bodies for them. Sangomas and traditional doctors were simply vessels that connected us to our ancestors.

Who are sangomas, ancestors and traditional doctors?

There are a number of verses especially in the Old Testament that deal with the topic of sangomas and traditional doctors. Obviously the Bible does not call them using those words but rather uses words like mediums and necromancers. Mediums are those people who consult the spirit of the dead and necromancers are those people who allow the spirit of the dead to occupy and use their bodies. Mediums and necromancers represents more or less what we understand today, and have always understood as sangomas and traditional doctors. I am saying this because sangomas and traditional doctors, just like mediums and necromancers, consult the spirit of the dead as the main part of their work. Some allow the spirit of the dead to speak through them.

Ancestors are dead people whose spirit can allegedly be consulted for whatever purpose. They apparently have interest and are believed to can influence what goes on in life.

What does the Bible say about Consulting the Spirit of the dead?

There are a number of verses but I will only use some to make the point.

In 2 Kings 1:1-5, We lean about Ahaziah who fell through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria and lay sick. He sent his messengers to inquire from an idol god called ekron. This idol god called baal-zebub, was to tell Ahaziah whether he shall recover from the sickness. While on the way, God send an angel to Elijah to tell the messengers, to tell Ahaziah that because he went to enquire from an idol god instead of from the true God, about his sickness, he shall surely die of his sickness.

In Isaiah 8:19, God through Isaiah asks, when people say let us go an inquire from mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, and they will tell us what to do. Should people not actually ask God instead for guidance? Should the living ask guidance from the dead? God is asking this question because mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, consult the spirit of the dead to get guidance, which they then pass on to those that consult with them. This is why God asks whether the living should ask guidance from the dead. The answer is that people should not consult mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, but instead they should consult God for guidance. The living should not consult the dead for guidance. If you doubt this, look at the following verse Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

More verses

In Deuteronomy 18:10-12, God gives a command to Israel and by extension to us that there shall not be found among us, mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, or anyone who inquires from the dead. God says whoever does these things is an abomination to Him.

In Leviticus 20:6, God says those who turn to mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, will face His judgement and will be cut off from His people.

In 1 Samuel 28:6-7, Saul did exactly what we have been discussing above. When God did not answer him, Saul resorted to consulting a medium. In 1 Chronicles 10:13-14, We are told that Saul died because he breached his faith by doing two things, firstly, he disobeyed God and secondly he consulted a medium seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from God and as a result, because he chose to seek guidance from a medium, God put him to death and gave the kingdom to David.

What do we learn from these verses?

Firstly we see that God forbids/prohibits anyone from consulting mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors. God forbids anyone from consulting or inquiring from the dead. The reason why sangomas and traditional doctors are also forbidden, it is because they also consult the spirits of the dead. Anyone who consults the spirit(s) of the dead is an abomination to God and will face God’s judgement.

Secondly, we see two people, Ahaziah and Saul. Ahaziah was sick probably for a while and wanted to know if he will recover. He consulted an idol and God punished him with death. Saul was facing an army and was afraid. He consulted God, God did not answer him, he then decided to consult a medium and, God punished him with death.

Practical Lessons

Whether we are facing sickness or life troubles, consulting mediums and necromancers, in our case sangomas and traditional doctors, will bring God’s punishment upon us. God makes it very clear that we should only inquire from Him for guidance, whether He answers us or not. The very lives that they were trying to save by consulting idols and the spirits of the dead, they ended up loosing them.

So, I am appealing to you today, if you are a christian, stay away from those who consult the spirit of the dead, stay away from sangomas and traditional doctors, stay away from idols. Trust only in God.

I was recently asked a very good question and though I should update this message to reflect the answer I gave. If the person who is involved in consulting the spirits of the dead, sangomas and traditional healers, is someone you cannot stay away from, example a spouse, child and so on, then if they are Christians, you need to remind them at every opportunity, why this practice is sinful and pray for them always. If they are not Christians, preach the gospel to them with the hope that God may change their hearts and they may come to the knowledge of the truth. Guard yourself to ensure that you do not find yourself falling into the same sin.

    • Hi Thandi
Thank you for the question. Please don’t stay away from your husband simply because he has sinned. We all sin including yourself. What you need to do is to remind your husband that consulting sangomas is contrary to the word of God and therefore he should repent of that and trust in God. Pray for him always for God to help him out of this. There must be a reason why he resorted to Sangomas instead of trusting God. Pray that God can guide him back. In the meantime be the best wife you can be (1 Peter 3:1-6).

      • Thanks very much for your detailed 👍 teaching Tsepo. I fully agree with you on everything. Does this mean the dead people do not exist though? Does it mean they do not communicate with the living altogether? I’m just curious 🤔 in your response please quote the scriptures for me. I’m sure you can.

        • Hi Mboniseni

          Thank you for the question.
1 Samuel 28:1-15 and following. We see in this passage Saul going to see a medium who was able to bring from the dead, Samuel who was dead, and Samuel was able to speak to Saul.
In Luke 16:19-31 we see a story about the rich man and Lazarus.

Your first question: “Does this mean the dead people do not exist though?”

Samuel was dead but clearly he existed. Lazarus, Abraham and the rich man, were all dead, but clearly existed. So I think it is clear that the dead do exist. When we die, we do not disappear or cease to exist but we either go to hell or to heaven
          2 Corinthians 5:8
Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
The rich man died and went to hell while Lazarus went to Abraham’s side.

Your second question: Does it mean they do not communicate with the living altogether?

This is what the rich man said:

          Luke 16:27-28
And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’

Why did the rich man ask Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers to warn them, if he could do it himself? The answer is because he could not communicate with them, why? The dead cannot communicate with the living. This is the rest of the discussion:

But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

The rich man still insisted that if Abraham were to send the dead Lazarus to them, they will surely repent. But Abraham refused and said that the have the word of God and they need nothing more than that to repent.

Clearly the rich man was desperate but in his desperation, he simply could not communicate with his brothers. This to me is a clear indication that the dead cannot communicate, with the living.

          Hope it helps,

          For his glory

  1. Why should we get punished with death when we took wrong directions? You have been suffering with sickness for a very long time and you try second opinion, and God is here to guide us, and to be a true leader to us.

      • Thank you so much for clarity that we shouldnt consult sangomas..
Our we allowed to use traditional medicines e.g for healing sores

        • Thanks for the question

Yes you are allowed, there is nothing as far as I know, preventing you from using traditional medicine. The issue is not the medicine but consulting those who consult the dead. If you went to a herbalist who happens to have a God given knowledge on herbal medicine, and does not consult the dead, then there’s nothing wrong with that. All medicines whether traditional or not, were created by God and therefore good. Just make sure that when you are healed, you thank God and not your ancestors

          God bless

  2. I’ve been struggling with spiritual attacks for many years since i was a child.I grew up a born again Christian…many churches, many pastors, prophets, evangelists, apostles, deliverance prayers, fasting, whole night prayers, bible studies…im 28 years old and the attacks are so unbearable i hate night time,i cant sleep alone. What do u say about that???ive done all the prayer books by powerful men of God lile Olukoya…against ancestral spirits, marine spirits and still no change.

    • Hi

Thank you for your comment. I am very sorry to hear about your situation. Given the sensitivity with which your issue must be handled, I don’t consider it proper for me to respond based only on the information you have provided. I would need a bit more information from you, than what you have provided, for me to be able to give you a meaningful response. I also consider your issue to be one where a face to face discussion might be the best in handling this issue. This platform is certainly not the best platform on which to assist you.

However, if you are willing to let me know whereabout in South Africa you are, then I can look for a solid Bible believing church around you and ask you to approach the Pastor there to discuss the matter further.

Hope you find my response helpful.

    • God is willing to deliver you ,i’ve seen such cases and worse cases were people will have physical encounter with demonic entities and this experience sometimes you can’t tell anyone .The power of God is willing to deliver you just have faith. If you need any help or prayer just connect with me .

  3. Why you say is wrong to consult traditional doctors? At the same time we are allowed to consult western doctors offwhich they use same medicines from the soil. Look what Madagascar have done regarding covid 19 cure and yet it is not a western medicine solution. Now the west want to disapprove it. Tell me why shouldn’t we use traditional medicine.

    • As for your first question, please read my message as the answers are there. As for your second question, you are asking the wrong person. I said nothing about traditional medicine in my message. Have a blessed day.

    • Hi Kabelo
i also had a similar question but i think traditional healers get their powers and ideas from a wrong source which is the ancestors. but all in all there’s nothing wrong with medicines from the soil.

    • Hello Kabelo
I would like to know if one had knowlegde about how muthi works and if one knows what muthi to mix to achieve a certain goal either for healing or Spiritual matters is it a sin to use that knowledge and bare in mind this person has not consulted a person who consults the deade rather he or she buys their muthi from a traditional pharmarcy or chemist….is this a sin before God.
      Kind regards

  4. Yhooo…Im in a dilemma. Im a born again christian who have backslided due to lack of fellowship, npt praying and reading tje Word. The lockdown made it worse even…I know about God’s grace and how i can go back to Him…but for some reason have no motivation to….and Im recently considering consulting a sangoma just to find out about the stagnancy in my life…I know it not good but feel ive long left God’s “circle” what harm can 1 more sin do…crazy I know. But life has hit me hard… Im in a confused state.
Yes I could ask God himself, but I think He doesnt speak to me anymore…and I just need to know. How can u advice me?

    • Hi,
Thank you for asking the question as it allows me to address several issues. What I am about to say maybe hard, but it is the truth. To avoid writing a long message, I will not copy the bible verses, but I will reference them.
The first thing that concerns me about your question is that it reveals that you might have an incorrect understanding of what it means to be a born-again Christian. Let me address this issue first: No one chooses to be a born-again Christian, it is God who saves us, we do not save ourselves nor have any part to play in that (Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 3:5). We do not even have the ability to choose to be born again (John 6:44). We are born again from above (John 3:3) and we are born of God (John 1:12-13). When God gives us new birth, He removes a heart of stone from us and replaces it with a heart of flesh, then He washes our sins and gives us the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:24-27). Once we are born again, Paul tells us that He who began this work in us will bring it into completion (Phil 1:6) and Jesus says that those whom the Father gives Him, He will not loose even one (John 6:39). Therefore, what this is teaching us is that we are born again because of God and by God, and once born again, we can never ever stop being born again. In fact John says those who stop being born again Christians, it is proof that they were never born-again Christians in the first place (1 John 2:19).
Now, with this information, looking at what you wrote in your message, I am concerned. You say that you backslided, you have no motivation to go back to God, you feel you have long left God’s circle, and one more sin would not do harm. If I take all of these together, they tell me that you might be saying that you have stopped being a born-again Christian, and you do not even have the motivation to become one again and see no problem with one more sin. This might be an indication that you are not a born-again Christian and you never were. If I am wrong and you are indeed a born again Christian who is confused as you say, then you can expect God to discipline you back in line because, God says He disciplines those that He loves and are His children (Hebrews 12:3-17). He will never allow you to get out of line and stay that way. God is loving, merciful and gracious but He says He will punish those who are guilty (Exodus 34:6-7). If we go on sinning deliberately, knowing the truth, Paul says we can expect a fearful expectation of Judgement, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries/enemies. This verse is so important that I will quote it:
“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:26–31, ESV)
It is truly a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Secondly, God does not speak to people verbally like when two people talk to one another. He speaks to us through His word. When you want to hear God speak, you must read the bible. God also uses preachers, to preach His word to people, and He then uses that word to save them. Do not expect God to speak to you in any other way but through His word.
God is speaking to you now through me and His word. I appeal to you not to anger the Lord anymore than you have already have. I urge you to stop sinning. I urge you to confess all your sins to God. I urge you to acknowledge that God has the right to punish you for what you have done. I urge you to ask God for mercy. I urge you to put your trust only in Jesus no matter what. I urge you to live a life of obedience. Jesus asked and is asking you today:
““Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” (Luke 6:46, ESV)
I pray that God has mercy on you. If you are not truly a Christian, I pray that He changes your heart and gives you heart of flesh and gives you the Holy Spirit. I pray this in Jesus name, amen.

    • Hello Kabelo
I would like to know if using muthi you buy from a traditional pharmarcy is a sin against God or if one had knowledge of what muthi to mix in order to achieve a certain goal and he or she uses that knowledge is it a sin before God….Im not talking about muthi you get from someone who consults the dead rather muthi you can buy from the traditional pharmarcy or chemist

      • Hi Esethu, Thank you for the question. The bible only forbids consulting the dead or consulting those who consult the dead, not the use of muthi of any kind. If you obtain your muthi from one who consults the dead, then you are sinning. If you obtain your muthi from one who does not consult the dead, then you are not sinning. Hope this helps. Blessings

  5. I truly believe in God his power and in the name of Jesus. I am only 24 years old. My mother however, is in between, she goes to church sometimes but sometimes she wants to use muthis and consult sango as.. Now the problem is that she thinks there is something wrong with me and if things do not always work out well for me.. She suggests I also colsult sango as, and use muthis to protect my self.. How do I deal with this situation without disrespecting her. How can I show her that God can protect me withoiut using traditional medicines and sangomas

    • Thanks for the question. The biblical principle is that you must always obey the highest authority. The Bible commands us to honor our parents and obey them. However, if obeying God means disobeying our parents then, we must continue to obey God. Your first priority is God, then your spouse, then your children, and then everyone else. You must and are commanded to stay faithful to the Lord at all times. Only God can change your mother’s heart and open her eyes. Your job is to preach the gospel to her and to pray for her and to love her. God will do the rest. So I urge you to remain faithful to the Lord and not to concentrate on proving anything to your mother.

      Hope this helps

      Blessings

  6. Wow Tshepo, thank you so much for the post on sangomas. My daughter recently said that she has undergone initiation into a sangoma. I’m against this because 1. I’m a born again God fearing child of God; 2. In our family, there’s never been such a thing; 3. She lives with her mother from whom I am divorced and says the spirit is from her mother’s side.

I tried to make her see sense but she told me it’s her decision. I keep praying for her and my question is what more can I do except to hand the matter to God?

    • I hear your heart and pray for your strength, courage, knowledge and wisdom from God at this time. Please continue praying for her and please continue to share the gospel of Jesus each time you have an opportunity. Please don’t try to force her into anything but, through prayer, allow the Lord to maybe grant her repentance. Keep your focus on the Lord knowing that He is ultimately in charge. Blessings

  7. I would like to know the difference between a traditional healer, pastor that uses anointing oil, water, handkichiefs, face clothes, stickers, doctors/nurses etc?and why do Christians believe that panado, anointed stickers, bangles, towels, face clothes, salt oil, anointed rings can heal/protect them when it comes from pastors, prophets, evangelist and doctors? But it’s hard for a Christian to accept/believe that the things received from tradional healer are satanic? If both powers are transfered, since there’s spiritual sons/daughters and this tradition healer/herbalist also just got wisdom and knowledge as they were created,
I just want to know, especially traditional healers/herbalist, this people are not initiated like sangomas and witch doctors, but are just people born with it? Or maybe they are called something else, because this people know exactly what to use when you have a certain issue and they have helped many people

I need more understanding please help

    • Hi Lisa

      Excellent question.

“I would like to know the difference between a traditional healer, pastor that uses anointing oil, water, handkichiefs, face clothes, stickers, doctors/nurses etc?”

I take it your question is about what the differences are between all these people you have mentioned because they all claim to heal? If so, I do not believe that pastors can use anything to heal. In fact, I do not believe that pastors can heal at all. I do believe however that God can heal if that is according to His will, and we are in no position as human beings to command Him to heal us. As a human being and a believer, all you need is prayer and if God chooses to answer that prayer then you will be healed. I believe that doctors and nurses can speak for themselves. As for traditional healers, it depends what the source of that traditional healer’s power or knowledge is. If the traditional healer claims that he got his power or knowledge to heal from his ancestors, then the bible would be against that, since we are commanded not to contact or have anything to do with the dead.

“and why do Christians believe that panado, anointed stickers, bangles, towels, face clothes, salt oil, anointed rings can heal/protect them when it comes from pastors, prophets, evangelist and doctors? But it’s hard for a Christian to accept/believe that the things received from tradional healer are satanic? If both powers are transfered, since there’s spiritual sons/daughters and this tradition healer/herbalist also just got wisdom and knowledge as they were created,”

I am a Christian and I do not believe that anointed stickers, bangles, towels, face clothes, salt oil, anointed rings can heal/protect me when it comes from pastors, prophets, evangelist. If a Christian truly understands and submits to the word of God, they will not believe that either. As for panado from the doctors. I drink that and pray that God will use that to heal me, because the doctor who gave me the panado, does not claim that they got the knowledge from what is forbidden by the word of God like, for example ancestors. I pray to God when I drink panado or any medicine for that matter, because ultimately it is God who heals and not the panado. Panado or any other medicine is just the means that God uses to heal. I do not believe and hope I have never said that things from traditional healers are satanic. If the traditional healer does not contact the dead or does not do anything that contradicts the word of God, then there is nothing wrong with them or their medicine. The issue is where they claim to have gotten the power or the knowledge from. If the source is not biblical, then I will stay away from them because I am commanded to.

“I just want to know, especially traditional healers/herbalist, this people are not initiated like sangomas and witch doctors, but are just people born with it? Or maybe they are called something else, because this people know exactly what to use when you have a certain issue and they have helped many people”

The word of God is not against traditional healers but against anyone who contacts the dead and on the basis of that claiming to heal people. If the traditional healer does not contact the dead or does not do anything that contradicts the word of God, then there is nothing wrong with them or their medicine.

I hope I have answered your question.

      • Amen Brother Tshepo
I have been exposed to both realms and I know God through Jesus Christ is the only true living God.
I had an encounter that changed my life completely and I am still trying to find a way to package it so that it makes sense to people
I hope one day all will be revealed
Because God loves us and wants us to know Him so He can bless us and restore us.

  8. I love this. But how would I deal with this as a teenager who lives with their parents who practice ancestral worship when I am strongly against it as well as God is? My mother believes firmly in Christ yet when I try to show her proof that what she is doing goes against God she refuses to listen and comes with false evidence in such situations. How would I deal with her forcing me to go to a medium as well as take part in rituals I despise? She is my mother after all and the Bible does tell us to respect our parents.

Your guidance would be appreciated as well as Bible verse references.
    Thank you

    • Thank you Lesedi for the question. Your question deals with one’s relationship with authority that commands you to disobey God. It is an important question and one that cannot be taken lightly and one that has a practical implication in people’s lives. Although I could give you a direct answer and supporting verses, my answer to you would require me to ask you questions that I would prefer not to ask you over social media. My advise then would be for you to contact your local pastor, who knows you best and can best advise you in this situation. I apologize for not answering your question directly. I think it is important for me and more loving to you, for me not to simply ignore the implications of my answer in your life.

  9. What happens then when you want to consult with a medium just to find out how your loved ones are or how did they die and not merely for guidance?

    • Hi Nthabiseng

Good question. You are not to contact the dead under any circumstance and for any reason. The word of God is very clear on that.

It is the Lord who determines when and how we die. What is important is whether when we die, we die in Jesus or away from Him. In other words, make sure that you have a relationship with Jesus by repentance and faith. While you are alive, you still have a chance but, after death, without Jesus, the lake of fire is your final destination, where you will be burned and tortured day and night, forever and ever. Jesus is the only way to heaven. If you continue to contact the dead, then you reflect that you don’t have a relationship with Jesus and I would urge you to repent.

  10. Hi TShepo
I’m a 38 years, I am married but separated with my spouse I live with mylm she’s very sick and suffering from terminal glocoma she turned blind 3 years ago. My mother is in between shes a prayer warrior but not a born again like me. Since she’s sick she’s been consulting with the people who consult with the dead. I sometimes get cought up in the middle cuz in forced to drive her to those places. Where do I stand as a Christian born again

    • Hi Vuyiseka

      Thank you for the question.

Firstly, I am truly sorry about your mother. It must be very hard for you and especially for her. I pray for strength and comfort for your family during this time.
As a Christian, you are commanded to honor your parents. Honoring your parents means to love them, respect them, care for them and so on. This command applies in all cases and it is not conditional. The only time you will have to disobey your parents, it is if they command you or expect you to sin. The question I think you are asking is this: “ Is taking your mom to people who consult the dead a sin? Would it be dishonoring to your mom, if you refused to drive her?
There is no explicit verse in the Bible as far as I know, that deals with this issue directly, therefore, I will answer using the scriptures as a whole.

Is it a sin to assist someone to sin? That is the basic question. My answer would be yes. If you provide assistance to another person, no matter who they are, to sin against God, then I believe you are equally sinning.
The situation with your mom is very difficult and I will not even begin to think that I know how you feel and what you are going through but, the Lord has promised us that He will never allow us to face difficult situations that we cannot handle. Therefore, when faced with these difficult situations, because we can handle them, the Lord expects us not to sin and use the situation as an excuse.

Consulting the dead is a sin. Consulting those who consult the dead is sin. Assisting others to sin is sin. Therefore, as a Christian herself, I believe your mom should be able to understand that driving her to consult with those who consult the dead, is a sin, and why you cannot continue to do that. Remind your mom that as a Christian, she herself cannot consult with these people. Remind her that her sickness is not because God has failed her, and this is not the time to forsake God but to focus only on him through prayer and perseverance.

I hope this helps and I truly hope that the Lord is gracious to you and your mother, and that He brings understanding, strength and comfort in both your lives during this time.

      For His glory

  11. Hi Sir

i need prayers please, i come from a family with mixed religions as others believe mostly in ancestors while some of us believe only in God. i was previously in a relationship with a Seventh Adventist man who strongly believe in God just like me, but i left him for someone who believes in both God and ancestors and he sometimes consult traditional healers.

i love him and he wants to go home and pay for my lobola. Im confused when it comes to our different beliefs because i dont see myself bowing for any other God except thee Apha and Omega and i understand that God warned us not to be yoked with unbelievers. Am i on the wrong track here?

    • The kind of help you need requires a bit more time than a quick reply I can give. My advice is find a solid Bible believing church and attend a couple of biblical counseling sessions with the pastor/elders to resolve these issues.

  12. Thank you for the message sir. My mother side where I I grew up are have been Christians but my father’s side they are sangomas. So I have been shown n told since I am as young that I have a calling however I don’t know what it is about. I have been facing challenges to a point where I thought God has turned himself against me because I have sinned many times. I thought I was a born again but from your message iam not. It seems I have been trying by myself to be with God rather than God being with me. Recently life have been very difficult as if iam not living. How do I deal with such. I wish God can change me

    • The kind of help you need requires a bit more time than a quick reply I can give. My advice is find a solid Bible believing church and attend a couple of biblical counseling sessions with the pastor/elders to resolve these issues. In the meantime read more about who God is, especially His sovereignty and how He uses difficulties in our lives.

  13. Iam going through alot , have never consulted a medium before nor my family have. Going to consult is something I will never do physically cz I read the scripture and God forbids it. Lately I had a dream twice where a medium did a reading on me and could not get away from that situation, I felt guilty and I don’t know what to do to eas the guilt. I feel like God has forsaken me and cut ties with me, everything I do is going wrong and nothing is working out for me, wherever I pray I feel like the more worse things become for me. What do I do to continue believing because I feel defeated.

  14. That’s true and thanks for the information you’ve gave us🙏🏻

Is not about ancestors🙏🏻according to the Bible do you think there must be variety of churches. Don’t you think we should be in the same church? 🤔

  15. My name is Nomusa.

I am a born again Christian now but I was born in a traditional healing home where my mother and her sisters were Sangoma and my father was a well known traditional healer. After being born again I saw a change in my life and I wrote a book and it is published. I am still facing difficulty in my life but I will never change my mind about serving God because I never knew this truth about God and now I am learning gradually about God. I will not turn away from Him no matter how much difficulty I can face because I know that Jesus took all my sins, inequities, shame upon Himself. My question is this I don’t want anything to do with traditional healers anywhere near me. I read your answer in the previous question that was asked about using traditional medicine can’t my faith in God heal me from any kind of sickness as the word says by his stripes we were healed and no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

  16. Thank you for your clarity on the subject matter. We’re 3 daughters and a son (Orphans) I am the edest and the only one who is born again. I used to cake care of my parents by possible to means while they were still alive and now that I they are gone believe they have rested and take no part in this world of the living. In contrast my siblings see it proper way to do things for our parents which they didn’t do for them when they were still alive. Eg: celebrating the their birthdays and performing phabadimo (ancestry rituals) and expect me to support them by being there personally and taking part. For me it was always a platform and an opportunity to pray according to 1Tim 2 and preach the gospel. Now help me here: I would end up eating food offered to the dead defending myself with Matthew 25:11. 2, can I continue supporting them in this manner while praying for them and sharing the good news with them. Is it okay? I just want to do things in line with the word of God. I always send them holy scriptures and messages like this one of yours and abs usually pray for their renewal of mind to be able accept the thing of God and stop being deceived by the sangomas and mediums. They know exactly where I stand with my faith. I was there when they performed a ritual of removing khutsana, a surprising and questionable way of cleansing orphans while actually making them dirty by applying fresh blood, bile and waste from the stomach of the beast that’s been sacrificed for that purpose. I told you them it’s no a mistake that I’m an orphan because God says He is For Orphans. I did not take part but I ate the food that were cooked for the ritual which I also cooked while I was also praying speaking life to them and canceling all that was confessed during the day sacrifice /slaughtering process. Am I wrong? please help me.

    • Hi Nomsa
Your question is very important, and most people find themselves in exactly the same position as you find yourself in. I am in the same position as well currently. I praise God for all the efforts that you are taking in praying for your family and sharing the gospel. Please continue in that path as it is only God who can change hearts and open eyes. Instead of answering you directly, I would like to refer you to scripture. Please read and study 1 Corinthians 10:14-22. Paul answers your question directly. You might want to read the whole chapter for context. Please let me know what you find and if you did get your answer. Thank you very much for the question and God bless.
