Christians who think God is a liar!

Yes, indeed there are Christians who think that God is a liar. I am talking about those that have accepted Jesus as their savior and have been baptized. The sad thing is that within the Christian community, these people are more in numbers than those that believe that God is not a liar. It is shocking that we have more Christians thinking God is a liar, accusing God of making false promises and not believing that God is capable of doing what he claims he can do. Yet if you ask these people if they love God, they will say they do. Yet if you ask these people if the are born again, they say, yes. Yet they simply don’t trust God. Some even go as far as to say, you cannot completely leave everything to God, you have to do something in case he fails to follow through in his promises. Let’s look at some of the things that God has promised us:

– God said that he opens doors that are closed and shut those that are open and what he has opened cannot be shut and viceversa. Rev 3:7
– God said he will protect us and keep us safe. 1John 5:18
– Gid said he will meet our needs. Phil 4:19
– God said that he will never allow us to be tempted more than we can handle. 1 Co 10:13
We also know that all things are possible with God (Mat 19:26) why? Because God is faithful (2 Ti 2:13), God is trustworthy (Heb 10:23), God does not change (Isa 47:10) and most importantly, God does not lie (Tit 2:11).
So, if God is all of the things that I wrote above, why and how do we call him a liar, untrustworthy and unfaithful and incapable of doing anything he promises.
The biggest sin of them all in my view that we as Christians can do is the sin of anxiety or worry. When we worry we denounce God. We call him a liar, untrustworthy and unfaithful and incapable of doing anything he promises. This is because if we believed that God is everything that I wrote above, why then would we worry? God says:
Proverbs 3:5-8 (ESVST)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
By worrying we are simply saying, we cannot trust God, we can’t trust what he says. Therefore he is a liar, untrustworthy and unfaithful and incapable of doing anything he promises.
There are so many things that I can say about this but, I am going to allow Jesus himself to address this greatest sin of calling his father, our father a liar.
Matthew 6:25-34 (ESVST)
25 “ Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Jesus here is at the mount preaching during his famous Sermon at the Mount. He just told everyone that they needed to lay up their treasure in heaven where the treasure is much safer and ended that preaching with the statement that one cannot serve two master, God and money. You need to choose. This reminds me of what the writer of Hebrews said
Hebrews 13:5-6 (ESVST)
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say,
 “The Lord is my helper;
 I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”
Jesus now went on to preach about anxiety or worry. The verse above starts with the word “Therefore” meaning that Jesus continues from what he said in the last verse of verses. Jesus said in the last verse that we cannot serve God and money and now he says therefore we should not worry about our lives. Jesus says we should not worry about what we will eat, drink or wear. Jesus says life is more than these things. Do we live to eat, drink or wear clothes or do we do these to live.
An important point here to note is that eating, drinking and clothing are the basic needs of life. These are at the very minimum, what we need so that we can live. Without any of these things, we would die. These are the very same things that Jesus is saying we should not worry about. Jesus here is not talking about luxuries, rather, he is talking about the basic necessities of life and he says, we should not worry about those because life is more than those things.
26 Look at the birds of the air:they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow:they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Jesus then gives three reasons why we should not worry about the very basic necessities of life. The very things that we need to sustain our lives here one earth. The first reason is that birds that fly over us  don’t sow nor reap or store food but yet God feeds them. He then asks if we are not more important to God than birds. If God can feeds birds who are less important than us, how much more will he feed us.
Jesus then says in verse 27, if these things are the basic necessities of life and without them you would die, if you don’t have them and you worry, will your worrying extend your life by an hour, of course not. Jesus is saying worrying does not help at all. It is not like when you worry, your problems will go away.
Lastly Jesus then says, why do we worry about clothing if God can clothe the flowers of the land which  today is alive and tomorrow it’s thrown into the fire. Jesus says these flowers don’t manufacture clothes yet Solomon who was the richest king in his time, never had more beautiful clothes than these flowers have. Jesus says, if he can do that for flowers, will God not do even better for us.
Then Jesus says, how of little faith we are. Remember faith is the confidence we have in things promised and the evidence of things not seen. If we don’t trust that God can do these things for us then, we don’t have much faith in him and therefore we are of little faith. We are not faithless but although we do have faith, it is simply not good enough at its current state.
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘ What shall we eat? ’ or ‘ What shall we drink? ’ or ‘ What shall we wear? ’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
After giving the reasons, Jesus then says therefore, DON’T WORRY!. Jesus then says, listen, the Gentiles seek these things. These basic necessities of life, the Gentiles seek after them. Gentiles are Non Jews who at the time were not believers. During Jesus’s time, the gospel had not yet been preached among the Gentiles. God’s plan was for the gospel to be preached among the Jews so that the Jews can be the ones to spread it all over the world on behalf of God. So, Jesus using the word Gentiles here refers to unbelievers. Jesus is saying, those who don’t believe in God, look for these things but God knows that you need all of these things. God knows that you need to eat, drink and clothe. After all he created you. Jesus says don’t worry about these things as if you don’t have a father that knows what you need and cannot provide them. Jesus says that instead what you should be looking for is first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, how to enter this kingdom and once you have found that, God will provide you will all these things that you need.
Jesus is simply saying, listen, you are worrying about the wrong things, what is important is for you to prepare your way into the kingdom of God and to be as holy as he is. The only way to do that is to believe in His Son. Once you have, all these another things will be given to you.
34 “ Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Jesus then concludes by saying don’t worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has its own problems, Jesus says today has its own troubles and most importantly, these troubles are sufficient for the day. The troubles are not too much that you cannot handle but are just sufficient.
The issue here amongs Christians is not unbelief. We all believe in Jesus Christ and we all know that he is the way the truth and the life. We have found the narrow path to the kingdom of God through Jesus and we are holy in God’s eyes because we are washed by the blood of Jesus. The issue is that although we have seeked first the kingdom of God and his righteousness as Jesus said, and we have found it in and through Jesus, we don’t believe that God will do what he promised. We simply don’t believe that God will provide us all we need as he promised. By this we simply say that God is a liar, untrustworthy and unfaithful and incapable of doing anything he promises. Although Jesus said clearly that after we have seeked the kingdom of God and his righteousness, that God who knows what we need, will provide us with what we need, although Jesus said that God will do that, we don’t trust that, we don’t believe that and as a result, we worry anyway.

Why do we even bother to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness if we don’t trust him, if we think he is a liar, if we think he is incapable of doing anything. I mean if this is our attitude towards God, why do we even believe in his Son Jesus. I mean God could also be lying about heaven and hell so, why bother.

 My brothers and sisters, if we believe that God is he who he says he is, then let us trust in his word completely without doubt for if we distrust God, we are committing the greatest sin ever of calling our God a lair.

May God open our eyes and show us that we can indeed trust him with our lives, after all, he is the one who gave and owns our lives. Let us put our trust in him. Let us not rely on our own understanding  and intellect as that will not take us anywhere. Thank you Father for your word, in Jesus name, amen.
