Old Covenant vs New Covenant – Part 3

D) Are we as Gentiles or Non Jews or Non Israelites supposed to keep the law or the old covenant?

Now, this is simple logic. If the Mosaic covenant which is the law, is no longer even applicable to those it was given to, why then must we comply with it. The people that it was given to, did not and could not comply with the law or old covenant, what makes us think that we can? We simply cannot and we should not involve ourself in something that was not for us in the first place. Now where do we as Gentiles come in?
Ephesians 2:12-15 (ESVST)
remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

We as Gentiles, were brought near to God by the blood of Jesus. Nothing more and nothing less.

If we still live under the law, then the death of our Lord Jesus Christ is of no benefit to us. If we still insist on living under the law, then we are trying to achieve what Jesus Christ has already achieved for us when he died on the cross. Instead of receiving by grace through faith, we are trying to achieve righteousness through and by the law and its works. If we still live under the law, we are trying to achieve what even Peter said they could not, when speaking at the council of Jerusalem. This council was asked to decide wether the non Jews or Gentiles must also follow the law of Moses.
Acts 15:10 (ESVST)
Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

If you still live under the law, you are tying to achieve what no human being still in the flesh can ever achieve. It is impossible to achieve righteousness through the law as the standard required by the law is simply to high for us as human beings to can achieve.

Through Jesus however, since he was able to achieve what we cannot achieve, if we believe that he has achieved, then we also have achieved. Only through Jesus by faith, can we achieve the righteousness required to enter the kingdom of God. This is not because of anything that we have done or did not do but, it is because of the grace of God. It is because of the love that God has for us. God loved us while we were sinners.
Romans 5:8 (ESVST)
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Now I want you to know the following and say to yourself:

1. I am dead to the law

Romans 7:4 (ESVST)
Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
Galatians 2:19 (ESVST)
For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God.

2. I am not under the law

Romans 6:14 (ESVST)
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

3. I am free from the law

Romans 6:7 (ESVST)
For one who has died has been set free from sin.

4. I am not supervised by the law

Galatians 3:24-25 (ESVST)
So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,

5. I don’t serve in the old way of the law

Romans 7:6 (ESVST)
But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

6. I can live in the newness and freedom of Spirit

Galatians 5:13 (ESVST)
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Romans 7:6 (ESVST)
But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

7. I am led by the Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:18 (ESVST)
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
