Part 6 of 8 – Where does sin reside in us?

We have learned so far that sin in the eyes of God is a failure to achieve 100% of the standard of holiness set by God. This means a failure to achieve 100% compliance to all his laws. The laws of God includes the Ten Commandments and all other laws that are found in the bible. The bible as the very word of God, contains the standard of holiness required by God, and given through the law, and how to achieve it. We have also learned so far that from the very beginning sin originated from the devil and came to the world through Adam. The devils makes you question or doubt God and God’s commandments and gives an alternative to God’s law, which he knows our weak flesh cannot resist. The devil uses the desires of the mind, the heart and the body to cause us to sin and to trap us in sin. We have also learned that everyone knows the law and through this knowledge, we realized how sinful we are. We realize this because we compare our lives, what we do or don’t do, and what we say or don’t say with what God expects from us through the law, and we realize that we do not match up and therefore are all sinners. Therefore the purpose of the law was to show us how sinful we are and by this the knowledge of sin came to us. We have also learned now that sin reveals sin through the law, arouses our sinful nature through the law and condemns us to eternal death through the law. Therefore the very thing that fuels sin, the very thing that gives sin it’s power, the very thing that sustains sin, is the law. We have also learned that we are all sinners and we have been sinners from when we were conceived. We have learned that no one except Jesus, can ever claim that they have not sinned or are not sinners. We have also learned that if we claim to be without sin, we make God a liar.

 Now a relevant question to ask is, where does sin reside in us? Let’s look at this.
Matthew 15:19 (ESVST)
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.
Psalms 28:3 (ESVST)
Do not drag me off with the wicked,
with the workers of evil,
 who speak peace with their neighbors
while evil is in their hearts.
Psalms 41:6 (ESVST)
And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words,
while his heart gathers iniquity;
when he goes out, he tells it abroad.
Genesis 8:21 (ESVST)
And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man ‘s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
Jeremiah 17:9 (ESVST)
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
Jeremiah 17:1 (NLTse)
Judah’s Sin and Punishment
1 “The sin of Judah
is inscribed with an iron chisel—
engraved with a diamond point on their stony hearts
and on the corners of their altars.
Ecclesiastes 8:11 (ESVST)
Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.
Ecclesiastes 9:3 (ESVST)
This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that the same event happens to all. Also, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
Luke 6:45 (ESVST)
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
There are a lot of other verses that shows also that sin resides and comes out of our hearts. The heart is where sin is born, resides, matures and comes out. If our hearts are hosting sin, then what comes out of our mouths and what we do, will also be sin.
